What is the role?
The purpose of the role is to manage the material purchasing for sites in the region through effective controls, working under guidance from the Group Procurement team, meeting standards, maintaining the project programme, and producing reports for senior management to assess site status.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage procurement for up to 6 sites, ensuring Site Managers' queries and requisitions are processed promptly to maintain build programmes and quality.
- Schedule materials from drawings and raise purchase orders for Site Managers to call off, ensuring timely and within-budget construction.
- Create material cost analyses to maintain competitive prices and budgets, enhancing regional profitability.
- Stay updated with latest building products and legislation to uphold company standards.
- Ensure orders comply with Persimmon Group Procurement Procedures to maintain consistency and quality.
- Utilize the Persimmon Group COINS system and assist the Quantity Surveyor in setting up new sites and budgets to predict profitability.
- Coordinate with other departments (Construction, Sales, Customer Care, Accounts) to ensure efficient site operations.
- Adhere to and promote compliance with the Group's Health, Safety & Environment Policy.
- Lead the buying team, maintaining KPIs across all areas.
- Mentor and train junior team members to develop their skills and increase team productivity.
- Assist the Commercial Manager/Director with key business decisions and attend regional meetings as a subject expert.
What experience do I need?
- Previous Buyer experience within a construction company, with the ability to provide take-offs from drawings.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, with a strong work ethic.
- Adaptable with a consistent management style for site teams and supply chain.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Experience with COINS system is advantageous.
- Full driving license is essential.
