Job summary

Paxton Personnel Ltd invites applications for a Senior Buyer role within its procurement team, based in Scotland. The successful candidate will lead region-wide procurement of subcontractors, materials and services for major energy infrastructure projects and drive value-focused supplier relationships.

You will develop strategies, manage supplier performance, and negotiate commercial terms to optimise cost, quality and delivery across regional projects.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in procurement/buying within construction, energy or infrastructure.
  • CIPS accreditation or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction procurement processes from pre-construction through to delivery.
  • Experience procuring subcontractors, materials and specialist services.
  • Excellent commercial negotiation skills.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management and supplier performance.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proactive approach to identifying commercial opportunities and managing supply chain risk.

  • Identify and onboard new suppliers and supply chain partners.
  • Build strong relationships with strategic suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate strategic procurement activity with other regional teams.
  • Provide regular market and procurement updates to senior management.

They provide a broad range of services coveringdesign, construction, commissioning, Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC)and specialist technical and engineering solutions across the conventional power and wider energy transition markets.

Due to continued growth and an exciting pipeline of work, they are looking to appoint an experiencedSenior Buyerto join their procurement team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional looking to take on a senior role within a forward-thinking business working on some of the most important energy infrastructure projects in the market.

The Role

As Senior Buyer, you will play a key role in delivering effective procurement solutions across the regional operating unit, ensuring the business achieves the best overall value for money while developing a high-performing and sustainable supply chain.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the procurement of subcontractors, materials and services.
  • Developing and implementing procurement strategies across the region.
  • Ensuring procurement solutions are commercially competitive and deliver best overall value.
  • Developing and strengthening the regional supply chain in line with project requirements.
  • Managing supplier and subcontractor performance and relationships.
  • Driving improvements in cost, quality, delivery and overall supply chain performance.
  • Supporting procurement objectives across the wider business.
  • Providing a consistent procurement approach from work-winning and pre-construction through to project delivery.
  • Leading robust commercial negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Developing an accredited and structured supply chain aligned with regional demand.
  • Monitoring market conditions, pricing trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Identifying and onboarding new suppliers and supply chain partners.
  • Building strong relationships with strategic suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Working collaboratively with other regional teams to coordinate strategic procurement activity.
  • Providing regular market and procurement updates to senior management.
What We’re Looking For

We're keen to speak with experienced procurement professionals who have a strong understanding of the construction, civil engineering or infrastructure sectors.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience working in aprocurement / buying role, preferably within construction, civil engineering, energy or infrastructure.
  • CIPS accreditation or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction procurement processes from pre-construction through to delivery.
  • Experience procuring subcontractors, materials and specialist services.
  • Excellent commercial negotiation skills.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management and supplier performance.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to identifying commercial opportunities and managing supply chain risk.

Experience of procurement withinPower, Transmission & Distributionwould be highly desirable.
