Job summary

Theodore Harrison is seeking a Senior/Chartered Building Surveyor to own a varied project portfolio in Birmingham. This client-facing role offers progression as the practice grows, with a focus on education sector projects and a strong pipeline.

You will lead from the front, guide Architectural Technologists, manage RIBA stages, and oversee feasibility, budgets and delivery strategies across schemes and CIF applications.

Qualifications

• MRICS or MCIOB qualified (or working towards chartership).
• Experience delivering projects for public sector clients, ideally within education.
• Strong technical, organisational and commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and provide direction to Architectural Technologists.
• Manage projects through RIBA Plan of Work stages.
• Advise clients on feasibility, budgets and delivery strategies.
• Prepare schemes, specifications, costings and programmes.
• Prepare tender docs and advise on procurement routes and appointments.
• Lead contract administration and project management from inception to completion.
• Manage CIF applications via the Department for Education portal.
• Undertake building surveys and repair proposals.
• Advise on maintenance strategies and lifecycle planning.
• Manage planning applications and statutory compliance.

I'm partnering with a growing, highly regarded building surveying consultancy in Birmingham looking to bring in an experienced Senior or Chartered Building Surveyor to take ownership of a technically varied and rewarding project portfolio. The business has a strong pipeline of work, particularly within the education sector, and a genuine track record of developing people through to more senior positions.

This is a client-facing, career-defining role for someone who enjoys leading from the front - with real scope for progression as the business continues to grow.

What you'll be doing

• Leading design development and providing clear direction to Architectural Technologists
• Managing projects through the RIBA Plan of Work stages
• Advising clients on feasibility, project options, budgets and delivery strategies
• Preparing scheme designs, specifications, costings and project programmes
• Preparing tender documentation and advising on procurement routes and consultant/contractor appointments
• Leading contract administration and project management from inception to completion
• Preparing and managing Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) applications via the Department for Education portal
• Undertaking building surveys, defect diagnosis and preparing repair proposals
• Advising on maintenance strategies, PPM schedules and lifecycle planning
• Managing planning applications and advising on statutory compliance, including Building Regulations, health & safety and accessibility legislation
