Job summary

Belcan in Manchester seeks a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to own the mechanical design packages and lead multidisciplinary coordination through the project lifecycle. You will deliver concept through construction support for complex HVAC systems in the power and energy sector.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status or progress toward it, with a strong track record in UK building regulations and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
• CEng status or working towards chartership.
• Extensive HVAC/mechanical design experience in power/energy.
• Proven track record in multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and CIBSE standards.
• Experience with design calculations, equipment selection and reviews.
• Proficient in CAD and 3D modelling tools.
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of mechanical building services and HVAC from concept to construction support.
• Own mechanical work packages ensuring quality, programme compliance and delivery.
• Produce design calculations, specifications, schedules, and reports.
• Develop HVAC, plumbing and public health designs across design stages.
• Prepare schematics, equipment selections and technical documentation.
• Carry out load calculations, ductwork/pipe sizing and plant selection.
• Lead risk assessments, HAZID/HAZOP and reviews.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, contractors and client reps.
• Support BIM and digital engineering delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical guidance.
