Job summary

Belcan is seeking a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer in Manchester to lead HVAC and mechanical systems design across major power and energy projects. You will own work packages, produce technical calculations, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliant, efficient solutions.

The role requires Chartered status or active progression, strong UK regulations knowledge, and hands-on use of CAD/3D modelling.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• CEng or working towards chartership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services and HVAC systems from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Take ownership of mechanical work packages, ensuring technical quality, programme compliance and successful delivery.
• Produce and review design calculations, specifications, schedules, engineering reports and technical studies.
• Develop HVAC, plumbing and public health engineering designs aligned with recognised design stages.
• Prepare system schematics, equipment selections, specifications and associated technical documentation.
• Carry out heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation assessments, ductwork and pipework sizing, pressure loss analysis and plant selection.
• Lead design risk assessments and support technical reviews, HAZID and HAZOP activities where required.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, suppliers and client representatives.
• Support BIM and digital engineering delivery processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on complex engineering challenges.
