Job summary

High Speed Two Ltd is recruiting a Senior Structures Engineer to join its Civil Structures SME team, providing technical leadership and engineering assurance across the HS2 programme.

You will review designs for hundreds of structures, including bridges and viaducts, and sign off departures within delegated authority. This role suits an experienced Bridge Engineer aiming to influence across Europe’s largest infrastructure programme.

Qualifications

• Significant bridge engineering experience in design, assessment, review or technical assurance.
• Experience on major infrastructure projects, ideally rail/transport.
• Strong understanding of structural engineering standards and design requirements.
• Proven ability to review complex designs and provide defensible recommendations.
• Experience managing technical risks, queries and design departures.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with senior engineers, contractors and designers.
• Understanding of UK CDM Regulations 2015 and related safety requirements.
• Chartered Engineer status or active progression towards chartership.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist bridge engineering expertise and technical assurance across 350+ structures.
• Assess complex designs, submissions and proposed departures; make recommendations and approvals.
• Collaborate with contractors, designers and HS2 teams to resolve design and construction issues.
• Support interpretation and development of engineering standards and governance across the programme.
• Evaluate safety, constructability, programme and cost implications of proposed solutions.
• Engage with four Main Works Civils contractors and internal HS2 stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Identify opportunities for innovative structural techniques and improved efficiency across the portfolio.
