Job description

Due to ongoing year on year growth, our clients, a multi-disciplinary award winning consultancy, are looking to add a Senior Bridge Engineer to the business. As the Senior Bridge Engineer, you will join the structural engineering team to help deliver planning, design, and engineering services. You will help grow a team and work on projects within London and across the UK.

The work ranges from feasibility to full scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support, and asset management.

The role

1. Development and delivery of concept, preliminary & detailed highway structure designs
2. Preparation of calculations, written reports, and checking of drawings
3. Complex structural and data analysis and checking of junior colleagues' work
4. Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior colleagues
5. Supporting less experienced team members to allow them to achieve their full potential
6. Planning and management of project tasks and teams
7. Development of project task budgets and programmes and delivering to these targets
8. Attending client meetings and liaising with clients and other stakeholders
9. Planning and undertaking site visits, inspections, and investigations as required
10. Taking an active role in the implementation of CDM duties on projects

The ideal candidate

1. Minimum of 5 years relevant experience working in a design team environment
2. Degree within an engineering-based subject or equivalent
3. Professionally qualified (IEng or CEng) or nearing Chartered status in Civil or Structural Engineering
4. Background in steel and concrete bridge design and assessment
5. Understand the underlying principles behind design and assessment standards
6. Demonstrable experience supporting the delivery of detailed designs and assessment of highway bridges and structures
7. Adept at working within a team environment and have experience across a range of engineering structures
8. Possess strong analytical ability and a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and current technical standards
9. Appreciate the commercial requirements of projects and have experience supporting the development of budgets and programmes
10. Understand basic structural concepts and the principles of highway structures engineering
11. Can communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients, and contractors
12. Understand Health & Safety requirements and CDM duties
13. Have a working knowledge of AutoCAD
