Job description

Our client has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Structures Engineer to join their team in the East region on a permanent basis.

Key skills required for this role

Important:

The Senior Structures Engineer will provide technical expertise in the asset management and maintenance of highway structures assets.

As a Structures Engineer, you will lead the development of structures (bridges and other infrastructure) asset management documents, including management of substandard structures and post-tensioned structures.

This role can be based in Bedford, Cambridge, or Ipswich with hybrid working arrangements.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role and must have a full clean driving license to be considered.

Responsibilities include
  1. Leading feasibility studies for improvements and renewals, including document compilation, evidence gathering, and options analysis for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
  2. Developing asset management strategies and documents for structures, including management of substandard and post-tensioned structures, half-joints, concrete deck hinges, scour, headroom, pier impact, and parapets.
  3. Developing AIPs, structural reviews, and assessments.
  4. Preparing technical briefs for external consultants and contractors for asset management and scheme development, and managing their delivery.
  5. Providing technical support regarding third-party or customer queries related to structures and other asset areas such as roads, drainage, and technology.
  6. Supporting reactive measures like bridge strikes and parapet strikes, coordinating with Service Delivery colleagues for safety and repairs.
Qualifications and experience
  • Structural/Civil Engineer with appropriate experience or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Experience in highway structures management, inspection, assessment, and design.
  • Knowledge of DMRB standards, methods, and specifications for highway works.
  • Experience with highway construction and delivery methods.
  • Understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
