Job summary

The Project / Bid Director role in Hertfordshire offers £90,000 plus package within a major UK contractor’s Construction Public division. You will lead full bid life cycles for £100m–£300m projects, managing teams, strategy, client negotiations and post-award governance.

Flexible on location across England/Scotland and potential travel to other European countries may be required. Strong sector knowledge and JV/collaboration experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience leading bids in health, NHS, custodial and defence sectors.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• Likely to hold a further professional qualification.
• Possible Member of Institute of Project Managers.
• Probably a builder, civil engineer or mechanical/electrical professional with leadership and communication skills.
• Strong leadership with commercial and financial acumen.
• Track record of delivering complex major projects.
• Proven success taking at least two major projects to completion.
• Knowledge of PFI/PPP or framework structures.
• Experience working with public sector and building client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage delegated authority from the project JV board to execute project activities.
• Develop and submit the bid strategy and budget to the project board.
• Implement the approved strategy within budget.
• Report progress and expenditure to the project board.
• Chair project board and steering group meetings.
• Ensure Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards are met.
• Lead client negotiations and maintain stakeholder relationships.
• Establish and manage the bid team where applicable.
• Coordinate shareholder support for the project company.
• Submit commercial and financial bid content for client submission.
• Drive profit delivery and resource management to meet time and budget.
