Job summary

Wheely in London is seeking a Mid/Senior Backend Engineer to join the Mapping team handling road matching, low-latency ETA predictions, and large-scale geospatial data processing.

You will primarily write Go, help migrate legacy Ruby services, and collaborate with product, design, and data science teams to turn requirements into robust technical designs. This office-based role is in West London, with one remote day per week and visa sponsorship options.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable backend services.
• Go experience preferred; multi-language capability accepted.
• In-depth knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) and messaging (RabbitMQ or Kafka).
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience with mapping/geospatial data processing, map-matching, or routing algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, performant code primarily in Go.
• Implement new microservices while helping migrate away from legacy services.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and data scientists to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Ensure systems stay responsive under heavy load, optimising for latency and reliability.
