Job summary

Betterment is seeking an Engineering Manager for Broker Dealer to lead and mentor a backend team building scalable trading technology. You will guide architecture, ensure robust delivery, and collaborate with Product, Operations, Legal, and Compliance to align roadmaps with business goals.

You’ll balance delivery speed with long-term quality, help grow engineers, and drive effective technical decision-making while maintaining system stability and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in formal Engineering Management of direct reports.
• 8+ years of experience in building and maintaining backend distributed systems using Java or a similar strongly typed programming language.
• Mentor and grow engineers to reach their potential.
• Collaborate across Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal and Compliance to deliver impactful solutions.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of 6-8 backend engineers building trading technology.
• Foster career development and align roadmaps with engineers' growth interests.
• Champion maintainability and reliability of the team’s technology.
• Balance speed of delivery with quality and correctness across projects.
