Job summary

Depop is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join us permanently in London or remotely in the UK. You will work with engineering managers, product teams and other engineers to design robust solutions for a platform serving millions of users daily.

You should bring strong software engineering fundamentals, proficiency in Scala and Python, and experience with databases like PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, plus exposure to AWS and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Solid software engineering experience.
• Strong evidence that you can learn our Scala stack effectively.
• Willing to work across multiple paradigms and languages, such as backend or data work, using Scala and Python.
• Strong technical and non-technical communication skills.
• Proficient in testing solutions at different levels, unit and integration.
• Experience with relational or non-relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• Experience with Kubernetes or similar.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Product Designers, and Engineers to understand problems and design solutions.
• Produce high-quality code used by 1M+ daily users.
• Own your code, workflows and data through their lifecycle.
• End-to-end application support including production incident management.
• Embrace agile methodologies and user-centred thinking.
• Collaborate daily with cross-functional teammates to solve problems and write code.
• Mentor and coach colleagues.
