About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer with a specialization in Node.js to join their core engineering team. This is an on-site position based in the bustling area of Randburg, Gauteng, ZA . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs that power our flagship products. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of JavaScript (Node.js), asynchronous programming, and database technologies. You will play a critical role in architectural decisions, contribute to code quality through reviews and best practices, and collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver robust software solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and product managers to define and implement new features.

• Implement and manage database solutions (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) for application data.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong focus on Node.js.
• Proficiency in JavaScript (Node.js), including experience with frameworks like Express.js or NestJS.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and microservices.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
• Familiarity with RESTful API design principles and best practices.
• Experience with version control systems, such as Git.
• Knowledge of testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha).
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
