Job summary

Luna Innovations Incorporated in Elstree, London, is seeking a Senior Software Backend Developer to design, develop, and scale backend systems powering our edge platform. You will work with modern C++ across data processing pipelines in a global infrastructure.

You will collaborate with engineers, data scientists and product managers, integrate Python algorithms, containerize with Docker/Podman, and contribute to secure, scalable software across UK, Germany and USA.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience developing software in modern C++ (C++17 or later).
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and WebSockets.
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices-based architectures.
• Strong Linux development experience and Windows familiarity.
• Hands-on experience with container technologies such as Docker and Podman.
• Experience developing and supporting data-intensive applications and processing pipelines.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices (Git, CI/CD, testing frameworks, issue tracking, documentation).
• Knowledge of software security principles and secure coding practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and ability to work independently.
• Strong communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance data processing services using modern C++ (C++17+).
• Build and enhance backend services for sensor management, data ingestion, analytics, and APIs.
• Integrate Python algorithms into production-ready software solutions.
• Develop, deploy, and support containerised applications using Docker and Podman across Linux and Windows.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and domain experts.
• Improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability across distributed deployments.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and influence technical direction and best practices.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software delivery processes.
• Implement secure development practices and vulnerability remediation.
• Take ownership of features end-to-end from design to deployment.
