Jobtailor in Cardiff is seeking a senior Systems Engineer to build and manage scalable hybrid architectures that connect on‑premises systems, legacy datacenters, and edge networks to Microsoft Azure via Azure Arc and ExpressRoute.

You will supervise deployment, configuration, licensing and patching of enterprise VMs in Azure, manage Entra ID/AD sync, write automation with PowerShell or Python, and design backup and disaster recovery using Azure Backup and Site Recovery.

Qualifications

5+ years of systems engineering experience.
At least 3+ years architecting and supporting enterprise systems workflows in Microsoft Azure.
Deep, production-grade knowledge of Windows Server, Red Hat, and Ubuntu.
Advanced troubleshooting methodologies.
Comprehensive understanding of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancers, and firewalls.
Practical expertise in PowerShell or Python scripting.
Proven track record deploying Azure IaaS components: Virtual Machines, Managed Disks, Virtual Networks, Key Vault, and Blob Storage.
Active Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert designation highly desirable.
Ability to operate reliable server infrastructure with 99.99% uptime across cloud and hybrid environments.
Ability to maintain automated, auditable, and compliant system configurations.
Proactive infrastructure monitoring skills.

Responsibilities

Build and manage scalable hybrid architectures linking on-premises systems, legacy datacenters, and edge networks to Microsoft Azure using Azure Arc and ExpressRoute.
Supervise deployment, configuration, licensing, and security patching of enterprise virtualized infrastructure, including Windows Server and Enterprise Linux distributions in Azure compute layers.
Manage Microsoft Entra ID, Entra Domain Services, Active Directory sync topologies, and role-based access management.
Write automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates, or Azure Bicep.
Architect, test, and maintain enterprise backup topologies and disaster recovery strategies using Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery.
Monitor OS-level performance, troubleshoot system bottlenecks, manage enterprise logging via Log Analytics, and configure Azure Monitor alerts.
Build, operate, and maintain enterprise-grade infrastructure natively on Microsoft Azure and manage complex hybrid-cloud environments.
