Job summary

Tailor Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Automation & Facilities Manager to lead a large, highly automated Liverpool operation. You will drive reliability, manage budgets, and develop talent across engineering, automation and facilities teams.

You will embed a proactive maintenance culture, partner with external contractors, and shape the site’s engineering and facilities strategy. This is a senior, commercially minded leadership role.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing engineering, automation and facilities teams.
• Experience leading multi-skilled technical teams within a high-volume operational environment.
• Strong knowledge of automated material-handling and warehouse systems.
• Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA and automated control systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programmes.
• Good knowledge of UK health & safety, building compliance and environmental requirements.
• Experience managing contractors, suppliers and service contracts.
• Experience managing significant operational budgets.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
• The confidence to make decisions and take ownership in a demanding operational environment.
• A proactive approach to identifying problems before they impact the operation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a multi-skilled engineering, automation and facilities team.
• Create a culture focused on safety, accountability, reliability and continuous improvement.
• Manage resource planning for engineering and facilities coverage.
• Coach and develop managers and team members; succession planning.
• Build relationships with stakeholders across the business.
• Own reliability and availability of automated warehouse systems and associated engineering infrastructure.
• Develop proactive maintenance strategy to reduce downtime.
• Oversee PM programmes and ensure completion.
• Analyse faults to identify improvement opportunities.
• Manage lifecycle of critical automation and engineering assets.
• Coordinate upgrades and replacements.
• Work with engineering partners to resolve complex issues.
• Support introduction of new automation technologies.
• Manage day-to-day operation and maintenance of site facilities.
• Ensure safe, compliant working environment.
• Manage emergency response and business continuity.
