Job description
Overview

Wirral Council is recruiting a Senior Auditor to join the Internal Audit team. Senior Internal Auditors undertake the planning and delivery of a variety of internal audit reviews of areas of Wirral Council's services, policies and procedures. Through their programme of work, Senior Internal Auditors challenge existing processes, identifying inefficiency, waste or fraud, and look for innovative and creative ways to improve the way the Council works. Internal Audit helps the organisation manage risks and acts as a catalyst for change.

Role

Senior Auditor x 2

About the Role:

This is a great opportunity to develop your career in local government within a forward-thinking and inventive Internal Audit team, working within an innovative and supportive Council. You will take responsibility for reviewing and evaluating a wide range of organisational functions and services including finance; social care; major infrastructure projects; high-value contracts; and complex partnership and joint working arrangements across the region. The Internal Audit team also provides advice and consultancy across the Council, aiming to add value and improve governance, risk management and control.

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will have responsibility for managing the delivery of your own varied portfolio of work, which may also include fraud investigations. The supportive team environment will help you develop your skills across all areas of audit, by working closely with experienced colleagues.

Your work will provide assurance on the effectiveness of the organisation's risk management, governance, policy and internal control processes, and you will work with audit clients to agree improvements and innovations based on your ideas and recommendations.

About the Candidate

Successful applicants will be passionate about improving the public sector. They will be team players and great communicators, with the desire to think innovatively and strategically about how to improve the way systems and services work, challenge current processes, and work closely with senior management and key stakeholders across the organisation. Previous experience in Internal Audit or finance is desirable but not essential, and applications from individuals with a range of transferable skills are welcome.

Successful candidates will either already be qualified or working towards a recognised professional qualification such as CCAB or CIIA or demonstrate qualification to this level via equivalent experience.
