Job description

Senior Building Surveyor - Associate Director
Bristol Building Surveying Multidisciplinary Consultancy
A senior Building Surveying opportunity with plenty of room to grow.

A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is continuing to expand its Building Surveying team in Bristol and is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Building Surveyor through to Associate Director. This is an opportunity to join an established and growing team, working alongside wider disciplines and delivering a varied portfolio of projects for high-profile public and private sector clients. The role offers genuine variety across healthcare, education, residential, defence, commercial, infrastructure and public sector projects, with the opportunity to take ownership of key commissions, develop client relationships and play an active role in the continued growth of the Bristol Building Surveying team. For an experienced Senior Surveyor, this could be an ideal opportunity to take the next step into a leadership position. For an established Associate Director, it offers the chance to make a real impact on the development of a growing regional team.

The role

You’ll have the opportunity to combine hands-on technical Building Surveying with project leadership, client management and business development. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering a broad range of Building Surveying and consultancy services.
  • Managing projects from inception through to completion and handover.
  • Undertaking and overseeing building surveys and technical assessments.
  • Taking responsibility for key projects and high-profile client accounts.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Identifying opportunities for repeat business and supporting the generation of new work.
  • Preparing scopes, fee proposals, tenders and contractual documentation.
  • Contributing to bids and new business opportunities alongside the wider marketing and business development teams.
  • Managing project workloads, resources and service delivery.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to colleagues across the Building Surveying team.
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced surveyors and supporting their professional progression.
  • Working collaboratively with other disciplines to deliver joined-up solutions for clients.
  • Supporting the continued development and growth of the Bristol Building Surveying offering.
  • Keeping up to date with industry developments, legislation and best practice.
About you

They’re looking for an experienced Building Surveyor who combines strong technical capability with the confidence to take ownership of projects, clients and relationships. You’ll ideally have:

  • MRICS or FRICS status or be working towards Chartered membership.
  • Significant experience within Building Surveying and consultancy.
  • A strong track record of delivering projects from inception through to completion.
  • Experience across both professional Building Surveying and project delivery.
  • Strong client management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience with scopes, fees, tenders and profitability.
  • The ability to identify opportunities and contribute to business development.
  • Experience managing, mentoring or developing other Building Surveyors.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to operate at senior client level.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel where required.
The opportunity

This role is particularly suited to someone who wants more than just technical project delivery. You’ll have the opportunity to build your client profile, contribute to business growth, support the development of a talented Building Surveying team and work alongside a wide range of disciplines on some genuinely interesting projects. Whether you’re a Senior Building Surveyor ready to step into Associate Director level, or an established Associate Director looking for a new challenge in Bristol, there’s scope for the role to develop around the experience you bring.
