Job summary

Walkers is seeking a Senior Associate to join the corporate group on a broad range of corporate matters, including M&A, governance, public and private markets, and equity capital raising.

You will manage day-to-day files, act as the principal client contact, and provide technically sound advice while helping expand client relationships across Walkers’ global network. The ideal candidate has Bermuda or Commonwealth qualifications with 5+ years' PQE and excellent academics.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Bermuda or Commonwealth lawyer with at least 5 years post-qualification experience.
  • Strong academics with international or Bermuda experience in corporate law and M&A.
  • Proven senior-level experience handling day-to-day client files and transactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to attract new clients and develop firm initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on corporate matters including mergers, equity markets, governance and joint ventures.
  • Manage day-to-day conduct of files and be the principal client contact.
  • Provide technically sound advice and highly responsive service to clients.
  • Develop and expand client relationships important to the Firm’s success.
  • Support colleagues and partners on matters and leverage the global network.
  • Ensure adherence to billing rates, utilization and cost targets.

Overview of role

As part of the corporate group, the Senior Associate will work on a wide range of general corporate matters.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
  • Advising on a wide range of corporate matters, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, continuations and discontinuations, public equity markets and equity capital raising, shareholders' agreements and joint ventures and corporate governance
  • Responsible for the day-to-day conduct of files and being the principal point of contact for clients
  • Provide technically sound advice and highly responsive service to clients
  • Assist in developing and expanding client relationships important to the Firm’s success at the same time becoming a valued resource to clients
  • Support colleagues and partners on matters important to the Firm
  • Use of the global network to build the Firm resources
  • Maintain a sustained record of revenue generation and profitability; follow recommended billing rates; manage costs appropriately; ensure personal utilization meets expectations
  • Adhere to Firm's values and professional ethics and proactively seek resolution of conflicts
  • Participate in the development of the practice’s know-how and share knowledge
Education, Skills & Experience
  • Bermuda and/or qualified commonwealth lawyer at minimum of 5 years' post-qualifying experience at a reputable law firm
  • Excellent academics with top level experience obtained in Bermuda or internationally
  • Motivated and commercially driven with a sound technical knowledge of corporate law and commercial practice and experience advising public and private companies, venture capital houses and investment funds in relation to public and private M&A and investment transactions
  • Demonstrable transactional experience at a senior level handling the day-to-day aspects and project management of client files
  • Proven track record of training junior associates and handling the day-to-day aspects of corporate matters
  • Solid commercial understanding of relevant market and client industries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment. A team player, willing to support others
  • Ability to use legal precedents effectively and timekeeping and billing systems
  • Ability to support efforts to attract new clients and develop new initiatives
