Job summary

Trethowans LLP in Southampton is seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join our growing Commercial Litigation team. You will handle a varied, high‑quality caseload including shareholder and director disputes and other corporate disputes.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years PQE, strong technical ability, pragmatic dispute resolution, and a collaborative, client‑focused approach. We offer hybrid working, clear progression, and a competitive salary and benefits package.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with 5+ years' PQE in commercial litigation.
• Strong experience in shareholder and director disputes and corporate disputes.
• Experience in construction disputes would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Advising clients on a wide variety of commercial disputes including shareholder and director disputes.
• Managing your own caseload of complex and high‑value matters, supporting partners on strategic litigation.
• Preparing legal documents, correspondence, witness evidence and court applications; representing clients in court and ADR.
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships as a trusted adviser to businesses and individuals.
• Supporting business development activities and generating new work.
• Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues and contributing to team success.

As part of our strategic growth plans, we are seeking an experienced 5+ PQE Commercial Litigation Solicitor to join our highly regarded Commercial Litigation Team, based in our Southampton office.

The Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Associate to join our growing Commercial Litigation team in Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the team's continued growth, working on a varied and high‑quality caseload while helping to further develop our presence across the region.

The successful candidate will have significant experience advising clients on a broad range of commercial disputes, with particular expertise in shareholder and director disputes, corporate and commercial disputes.

Key Responsibilities

• Advising clients on a wide variety of commercial disputes, including shareholder and director disputes, corporate and commercial disputes, construction disputes, contract claims, professional negligence, and insolvency‑related matters.
• Managing your own caseload of complex and high‑value matters, whilst supporting partners on strategic litigation.
• Preparing legal documents, correspondence, witness evidence and court applications, and representing clients through court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution processes.
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships and acting as a trusted adviser to businesses and individuals.
• Supporting business development initiatives, networking activities and the generation of new work.
• Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues and contributing to the continued success of the wider team.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified solicitor with 5+ years' PQE in commercial litigation, ideally gained at a respected regional or national firm.
• Strong experience in shareholder and director disputes, corporate and commercial disputes.
• Experience in construction disputes would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Excellent technical ability, sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic approach to dispute resolution.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to manage client relationships confidently and effectively.
• A collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with colleagues across different disciplines.
