Job summary

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and motivated individual to join our Pharmacy team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary as a Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO). This key role within our pharmacy department involves supporting the preparation and dispensing of medicines, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety. The successful candidate will work closely with our pharmacy team to deliver high-quality services and support departmental operations.

Working Pattern: Part-time - Monday and Tuesday 9:00 to 17:30, Friday 9:00 to 17:30, with weekend and Bank Holiday work on a rotational basis.

Training Role Considered: Applications without NVQ2 Pharmacy Services qualification will be considered for a training role, which is paid at 70% of Band 3 in Year 1 and 75% in Year 2, then moving to a Band 3 upon qualification completion.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist in the preparation and dispensing of medications for patients.
  • Support technical pharmacy services, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Support stock control, including ordering and inventory management.
  • Provide medication advice to healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff and trainees.
  • Assist in supplying medicines to wards and departments across the hospital.
Personal Specifications
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent (or willing to work towards it).
  • Experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
