Job summary

PKF Francis Clark, a leading South West firm, seeks a Supervising Senior or Assistant Manager to join its Agriculture team, servicing farming businesses, landed estates and rural enterprises.

You will lead farm and rural accounts, tax computations and VAT returns, oversee bookkeeping, and provide insightful financial planning for clients in a collaborative, growth‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • AAT/ACA/ACCA qualification or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance
  • Methodical, accurate workstyle with attention to detail
  • Experience servicing different business entities
  • Experience using accounting and tax software
  • Ability to work independently and provide excellent client service

Responsibilities

  • Oversee annual farm and rural business accounts and tax computations
  • Review personal and company tax computations and VAT returns
  • Oversee client bookkeeping and preparation of forecasts
  • Analyze income and expenditure to support decision making
  • Identify financial, commercial and tax planning opportunities for clients
  • Maintain up-to-date accounting records for clients
  • Draft client correspondence and liaise with HMRC by phone/email
  • Provide admin and setup services for clients
  • Participate in meetings and client visits as needed

Join a specialist Agriculture team working with a diverse portfolio of farming businesses, landed estates, rural enterprises and agri-businesses across the South West.

This is an opportunity to develop your expertise in a sector with real depth and variety, working alongside experienced specialists while building trusted relationships with clients. As a Supervising Senior or Assistant Manager, you'll have the scope to take ownership, broaden your technical skills and progress your career within a supportive and growing team.

What you'll be doing day to day

You’ll be working with entrepreneurial agricultural clients who have diversified their farming business to cider farms, wedding venues, ice cream parlours and other interesting enterprises.

  • Oversee the planning, preparation and completion of annual farm and rural business accounts and tax computations
  • Review of personal and company tax computations and regular VAT returns
  • Oversee client bookkeeping services and preparation of forecasts and projections
  • Undertake detailed analysis of income and expenditure to support decision making, planning and control
  • Identify financial, commercial and tax planning opportunities for clients
  • Ensure that accounting records for clients are maintained and kept up to date
  • Draft correspondence for clients; liaising with HMRC, by telephone and email
  • Provide varied administrative and business set-up services for clients
  • Exposure to various capital tax issues e.g. inheritance tax and capital gains tax
  • Network at county roadshows, farm walks or local cattle markets. Sharing knowledge and catching up with other rural teams across our southwest offices
  • Have opportunities to participate in meetings and visit clients on farm
About you
  • AAT ACA/ACCA qualified (or nearing qualification), or qualified by experience, with relevant experience in a similar role
  • Good technical knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance
  • Committed, logical and accurate, with a methodical approach to work and strong attention to detail
  • Experience in servicing different types of business entity
  • Experience in using accounts and tax return software
  • Able to work independently and demonstrate initiative in delivering an excellent service to clients
