Job description

An exciting new opportunity has become available at Buckinghamshire Council in the Asset Management Team. As a Senior Asset Manager, you will support the Asset Management Team in the active management of the Council’s operational and non-operational property portfolios, enhancing service delivery, investment returns, and capital receipts.

This is a fixed-term contract until 30th April 2026.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are focused on the future and committed to serving residents better and providing stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

This senior role supports the Head of Asset Management. You will work independently and be proactive in a fast-paced environment. Your responsibilities include managing external consultancy and property management contracts across various Council portfolios.

This role offers diverse opportunities to develop your career in property and asset management, managing a broad and challenging portfolio. Initially, you will be based in the office or on-site at least two days a week, with flexible working hours within core hours.

We offer an excellent remuneration package, training opportunities, CPD, and career progression prospects.

The Assets Team manages a varied portfolio, including retail, office, industrial assets, farms, residential properties, schools, hotels, and theatres. There are ample opportunities to expand your property knowledge and participate in strategic projects that support revenue growth, capital receipts, service delivery, and asset rationalisation.

You will use your expertise to handle complex issues daily and take a strategic view on project and service delivery objectives.

You will manage individual projects with team support, support other team members, and oversee external contracts.

You will have the chance to influence the strategic direction of the portfolio and provide innovative solutions to complex situations.

We are a small, friendly team that works closely together, supporting each other and our clients.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Advise and undertake asset and portfolio management functions across the Council’s portfolios, aligning with corporate objectives.
  2. Provide strategic advice on assets to achieve best value for the Council.
  3. Negotiate Landlord and Tenant matters strategically.
  4. Negotiate disposals and acquisitions in line with the Asset Management Plan.
  5. Administer and manage tenants, service charges, queries, and budgets; oversee external managing agents and management contracts.
  6. Contribute to the development and strategic direction of the property portfolio and service delivery.

For full details, see the attached job summary.

Working Arrangements

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need network access to digital resources, which can be from home or an office. You will be required to work from the office a few days a week, depending on role and team needs.

About you

Ideally, you will be RICS qualified or have relevant professional property experience within a corporate or investment environment, with strong planning and organisational skills.

You should have excellent attention to detail, the ability to manage your workload within deadlines, and strong literacy, numeracy, and report-writing skills. Negotiation skills and experience in complex property transactions are essential.

You will have experience working with the public, resolving challenging situations, and reporting to Members. You should be a self-starter with innovative ideas to enhance the property portfolio.

This role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; applicants must declare all unspent cautions and convictions.
