Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment is seeking an experienced Area Planning Manager to lead part of the Development Management service during a maternity cover period. The role involves managing a team of planning officers, overseeing complex and major applications, and presenting reports to Members.

The post requires strong knowledge of planning legislation, excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to work flexibly with part-remote arrangements, including occasional site meetings

Qualifications

• Strong experience in Development Management.
• Experience managing complex/major planning applications.
• Previous team management/leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of planning legislation and policy.
• Experience presenting to planning committees.
• Excellent communication, report writing and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support a team of planning officers.
• Oversee planning applications, including complex and major cases.
• Lead on planning committee applications and present reports to Members.
• Provide expert planning advice to Members, applicants and stakeholders.
• Depose for the Planning and Development Services Manager when required.
• Monitor team performance, workloads and targets.
• Prepare planning reports and recommendations.
• Attend planning committees, public inquiries, hearings and site meetings.
• Ensure planning decisions comply with legislation and planning policy.
• Work with internal teams, external partners, agents and consultants.
• Support service improvements and strategic development projects.
