Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide architectural leadership across its media platform. You’ll shape the technical direction from ingestion through transcoding, packaging, storage, delivery, and playback at scale, collaborating with cross-functional teams in London or Stockholm.

You have deep experience building large-scale media platforms, leading architecture across multiple teams, and operating distributed systems at internet scale.

• Deep experience building large-scale media platforms across audio/video/encoding/transcoding/packaging/delivery.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term architectural direction for Spotify's media pipeline.
• Lead large-scale technical initiatives spanning multiple squads and orgs.
• Partner with engineering managers, product managers, and senior engineers to align strategy with priorities and costs.
• Guide architectural decisions across ingestion, transcoding, packaging, storage, delivery, and playback.
• Draft RFCs, architecture decisions, and design docs for engineering teams and leadership.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise technical quality and engineering excellence.
• Adopt cost-aware engineering, balancing compute, storage, CDN usage, and sustainability.
