Worcester City Council is seeking an experienced Arborist Climber to manage and maintain trees across the city. The role involves working at height, using chainsaws and specialist equipment, and making sound on-site decisions in busy public environments.

The post combines regular aerial work with practical problem solving, machinery care, and accurate records. You will brief colleagues, supervise work, and maintain safe working zones while prioritising biodiversity and public safety.

Qualifications

• Regular aerial tree work experience.
• Current climbing, aerial rescue, MEWP and chainsaw qualifications.
• Sound knowledge of arboricultural safety practices and health and safety procedures.
• Ability to plan high-risk work while protecting colleagues, the public and property.

Responsabilités

• Climb trees and carry out arboricultural operations within training, competence and safe systems of work.
• Use chainsaws, hand tools, powered equipment and specialist machinery to maintain trees and safely process timber.
• Plan access and work in locations affected by highways, footpaths, property and other hazards.
• Set up and manage safe working areas, including traffic management and exclusion zones when required.
• Assess tree form and condition and make pruning, shape and habitat decisions on site.
• Brief colleagues on the task, provide instruction and oversee work to ensure safety and standards.
• Contribute to dynamic risk assessments and safe working practices across the job.
• Adapt plans in response to conditions and escalate changes when necessary.
• Drive and tow equipment between sites, including MEWP if trained and authorised.
• Inspect, clean and maintain machinery and tools and report defects promptly.
• Record work completion, incidents and hazards using council systems and tree software.
• Provide arboricultural advice to colleagues and respond professionally to enquiries in public places.
