Job summary

Hedgehog Lab in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Android contractor to join a client project. You will help move an Android app for a UK bank to Jetpack Compose, on a remote-first basis.

The contract is outside IR35, starts January 2027, and runs for about six months. Responsibilities include building features in Compose, migrating XML screens, working with Kotlin and some Java, and using MVVM with Hilt/Dagger.

Qualifications

• Commercial Android experience in Kotlin, including Coroutines and Flow.
• Jetpack Compose and XML layouts; Data Binding; some Java for older code.
• MVVM architecture with Hilt/Dagger dependency injection.
• Unit testing with JUnit and MockK; tests to keep changes safe in large codebases.
• Mobile security: protecting data and securing network calls.

Responsibilities

• Build new features and screens in Jetpack Compose.
• Migrate XML/Data Binding screens to Compose.
• Work in Kotlin (and some legacy Java) within MVVM using Hilt and Dagger.
• Consume REST APIs and maintain third‑party SDKs.
• Write unit tests with JUnit and MockK to keep changes safe.
• Debug on emulators and real devices; address performance issues.
• Review PRs and participate in sprint planning, stand-ups and retros.
