Hedgehog Lab is delivering a UK bank's Android app migration to Jetpack Compose in a contract role. You will work remotely within a consultancy team that values testing and code quality, developing new UI while modernising the codebase and integrating with REST APIs.

The project emphasizes secure coding practices and collaboration on pull requests, sprint planning and reviews, with a start planned for January 2027 and a six-month outlook.

Qualifikationen

• Commercial Android experience with Kotlin, including modern UI and testing practices.
• Experience migrating XML/Data Binding to Compose and maintaining legacy Java code.
• Strong MVVM architecture with Hilt and Dagger dependency injection.
• Proficient in unit testing with JUnit and MockK to ensure code safety.
• Knowledge of mobile security basics, secure network calls and data protection.

Contracting often means being dropped into a client's team as the outsider.

Here you'll join a hedgehog lab team delivering a UK bank's Android app as it moves to Jetpack Compose.

It's a contract outside IR35, expected to start in January 2027 and run for around 6 months. You'll work on a remote first basis.

Experience you must have

• Jetpack Compose, plus XML layouts, Data Binding and enough Java to work on older code
• MVVM and dependency injection with Hilt and Dagger
• Unit testing with JUnit and MockK, and using tests to make safe changes in large codebases
• Mobile security, particularly protecting sensitive data and securing network calls

Experience that's nice to have

• Banking, fintech or other regulated apps
• SAFe or another scaled agile framework
• Migrating XML screens to Compose
• UI testing with Espresso or Compose
• Certificate pinning, code obfuscation and root detection
• Accessibility experience
