Job summary

ALS Laboratories (UK) Ltd is seeking a Senior Analyst - Grade 1 to join our laboratory team. You will support the Team Leader, supervise analysts when needed, and help ensure samples are processed accurately and on time in line with the Quality Management System.

The role includes training staff, planning workloads, and driving service delivery to meet KPIs. We value a proactive, collaborative approach, strong problem-solving, meticulous record-keeping and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure samples are processed accurately and on time per QMS and KPIs.
  • Interpret and report analytical data to maintain data integrity.
  • Supervise analysts in the Team Leader's absence and provide training.
  • Assist with workload planning, meetings, and resource management.
  • Train colleagues and assess competency for ongoing development.
  • Collaborate with Customer Services to resolve queries and issues.

Job description

Senior Analyst - Grade 1

As a Senior Analyst - Grade 1, you will play a key role in ensuring samples are processed accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines, while maintaining compliance with ALS's Quality Management System. You will support the Team Leader with the daily organisation of the laboratory and, when required, supervise and support analysts by providing training, guidance and instruction to help the team deliver a high-quality service.

Hours Per Week: 37 Days Per Week: Monday to Friday (08:00 - 16:00) Contract: Full Time and Permanent Annual Salary: £29,272 Hiring Manager: Radmila Despic Closing Date: Friday 25th September 2026

Day to Day
  • Ensure samples are completed accurately, on time, and in line with the Quality Management System and Company KPIs.
  • Interpret and report analytical data accurately.
  • Supervise and support analysts in the absence of the Team Leader, providing guidance, instruction and feedback.
  • Support the Team Leader with daily workload planning, team meetings, resource management and service delivery targets.
  • Train colleagues, assess competency and support ongoing development.
  • Work with Customer Services and laboratory colleagues to resolve queries, complaints and sample-flow issues.
  • Investigate and report non-conforming work, applying effective analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Monitor and reduce rework.
  • Follow all Health and Safety and Company procedures, including PPE requirements, and report hazards, near misses and incidents.
  • Work with the Team Leader to improve workplace safety, the working environment and staff wellbeing.
The Essentials
  • HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Significant laboratory experience, with in-depth knowledge of environmental testing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate data critically and draw sound conclusions.
  • Good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise your own workload and that of the wider team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • The ability to support, train and supervise colleagues effectively.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and a strong commitment to quality, safety and customer service.
