Job summary

Huawei Research and Development UK Limited in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the AI Processor Software & Hardware Co-design Lab to design and implement both compile-time and run-time optimizations enabling real-time AI on Huawei AI processors.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and deploy AI solutions on the Ascend platform, shaping performance, functionality, and efficiency of AI models and systems.

Qualifications

• Rich experience in optimizing AI chip architectures and AI systems.
• Hands-on experience of one of the following technologies: Numerical Calculation, Compilation, Algorithm & chip co-design, Runtime, Shared Memory.
• Knowledge of AI industry application scenarios and model development trends; extract chip-layer requirements.
• Experience analyzing workload sensitivity to micro-architecture features and recommending improvements.
• Familiarity with compute, memory, and communication configurations and their impact on AI acceleration.
• Experience with GPU compute APIs such as CUDA or OpenCL and using GPU/NPU-optimized libraries.
• Development of deep learning frameworks, compilers, or system software.
• Strong background in compilers and optimization techniques; LLVM-MLIR is a plus.
• Experience with C/C++ and Python software development.

Responsibilities

• Optimize AI processor architectures and systems end-to-end.
• Identify and drive evolution strategies for key technologies related to NPU chips.
• Develop end-to-end architectures by integrating algorithms, frameworks, runtimes, modeling, and compilers.
• Study AI trends and shape basic AI software/hardware architectures and usability/performance improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy AI solutions on Huawei Ascend platforms.
