Job summary

European Tech Recruit is assisting a global semiconductor leader in recruiting a Senior Research Engineer for onsite roles in Cambridge or London, UK. You will bridge research and implementation, advancing ML and AI to power next‑gen semiconductor design and AI systems.

The role emphasizes building prototypes, collaborating with AI researchers, and contributing to practical software that scales research ideas into real-world solutions.

Qualifications

• PhD with 2+ years post-doc or research exp.
• Publications at top ML or NLP conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, EMNLP).
• Experience with LLMs, RL, optimisation or generative AI.
• Experience developing research infrastructure or ML tooling.
• Knowledge of distributed training, GPU computing, or CUDA.
• Exposure to semiconductor technologies, chip design, or applied AI research.
• Commercial or research experience implementing machine learning algorithms.
• Strong programming skills in Python; C++ is advantageous.
• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.

Responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate novel ML algorithms and AI research concepts.
• Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept systems for research initiatives.
• Collaborate with researchers to translate ideas into practical software solutions.
• Build and enhance research infrastructure, pipelines, and internal tooling.
• Analyse experimental results and contribute to technical reports and docs.
• Stay informed of emerging AI research and advise on new approaches.
