Job summary

Medtronic plc in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer for the AI and Data Science Platform team. You will design, build and maintain cloud and on‑prem infrastructure that enables ML engineers, data scientists and software engineers to deliver new medical products at scale.

The role emphasizes hands‑on Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform/OpenTofu and Docker, with a focus on reliability, scalable developer experience, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Strong Kubernetes experience and ability to diagnose and operate Pods, ReplicaSets, StatefulSets, DaemonSets, Services, PVs/PVCs and Helm deployments.
• GitOps mindset with declarative, version-controlled delivery, PR workflows and peer review.
• AWS experience strongly preferred with broad cloud primitives (IAM, networking, compute, storage, observability).
• Hands-on Terraform and/or OpenTofu experience for maintainable infra changes.
• Hands-on Docker experience for building, debugging, and securing images.
• Experience operating production systems including incident diagnosis and safe change management.
• Ability to assess complex platform needs and deliver with limited supervision.
• Proven ability to improve developer experience, reliability, security and delivery speed.
• Collaborative team player who communicates openly and supports colleagues.
• Willingness to commute to London 2 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain cloud (AWS) and on-prem infrastructure used by ML engineers, data scientists and product teams.
• Support ML engineers by handling platform service requests, troubleshooting and improving MLOps platform usability.
• Foster productive relationships across engineering teams to align stakeholders and advance work.
• Explain technical ideas, risks and trade-offs clearly in PRs, design docs and incident reviews.
