Job summary

ALTEN is seeking a Senior AI Engineer (Autonomy & Machine Learning) to drive AI/ML work across defence and aerospace programmes. You will design, train and deploy robust AI in safety-critical environments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver production-ready solutions. Location: Bristol / Crawley / Glasgow (Hybrid).

Seniority: 5+ years. Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent military background.
• Commercial AI/ML development experience.
• Experience deploying ML solutions into operational environments.
• Experience with autonomous or safety-critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI and ML solutions for autonomy and intelligent systems.
• Translate requirements into scalable AI architectures and designs.
• Build data pipelines, training, evaluation, and model validation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to productionise AI capabilities.
• Ensure security, safety, explainability, and regulatory compliance.
• Support technical demonstrations, bids and customer workshops.
