Job summary

Money and Pensions Service in Bedford is seeking an AI Lead to provide senior technical leadership and oversight for AI across MaPS, setting direction, engineering standards and best practices for AI-enabled solutions. You will collaborate with Technology, Product, Delivery, Governance and Business teams to ensure AI capabilities are developed safely, effectively and in line with organisational standards.

The role includes leading AI specialists, advising senior stakeholders on AI opportunities,

Qualifications

• Significant experience providing leadership for AI initiatives and setting technical direction.
• Strong understanding of AI, data science, ML, generative AI and practical application in business.
• Experience leading design, development, deployment and operation of AI-enabled solutions.
• Strong governance, risk, security and assurance for responsible AI development.
• Proven ability to influence and build relationships across technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience collaborating with product, technology and business functions on AI-driven change.
• Experience evaluating emerging technologies and translating them into practical value.
• Experience coaching and mentoring colleagues to apply AI responsibly.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical leadership for AI across MaPS, setting direction on AI technologies, engineering approaches, standards and best practice.
• Provide technical oversight and assurance for AI initiatives, ensuring secure, scalable and maintainable solutions.
• Support AI adoption across MaPS by helping teams identify opportunities, understand risks and implement AI.
• Partner with Technology and Change teams to support AI implementation across functions.
• Lead the application of responsible AI principles with governance and risk management embedded.
• Monitor AI developments and identify opportunities to improve services and customer outcomes.
• Develop AI capability through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
• Build strong relationships across the organisation as a trusted advisor on AI topics.
• Engage with suppliers and professional communities to stay aware of industry developments.
• Lead and develop AI specialists, including line management of the Lead Data Scientist.
