Job summary

ALTEN UK is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to support next‑gen combat air capability, defining and delivering safety cases for flight control systems on advanced aerospace programmes. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers to ensure safety-critical systems are developed, assessed and integrated safely.

Based in Bristol with on-site requirements (3 days/week), you should have 5+ years in safety engineering for aircraft or flight control systems, and be eligible for SC

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Systems Safety Engineering activities in aerospace/defence/regulatory environments.
• Strong safety case development and safety assurance knowledge.
• Experience producing or reviewing Fault Tree Analyses and safety assessments.
• Knowledge of ALARP and SFAIRP safety arguments.
• Understanding of systems engineering processes and lifecycle development.
• Ability to manage multiple safety activities with multidisciplinary inputs.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, drive, and deliver safety case artefacts for aerospace and flight systems programmes.
• Maintain and progress system safety cases through the product lifecycle.
• Review and update safety analyses and supporting documentation.
• Develop qualitative safety arguments including ALARP and SFAIRP justifications.
• Collaborate with SMEs to capture and document safety requirements and evidence.
• Support investigations and drive safety actions to closure.
• Engage with suppliers and stakeholders to resolve safety issues as systems mature.
• Report on safety case progress and support governance and reviews.
• Participate in safety and platform integration groups contributing to programme safety objectives.
• Support senior reviews of safety concerns and recommend routes to resolution.
