New and Exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Advisor – Environmental and Social Risk Impact Assessment and Management for a key renewable energy project in Manila. The position can be remote and be employed or a contract position. Candidates based in the APAC region of particular interest
My client seeks an experienced advisor with relevant experience to provide high-level expertise in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and sustainability risk management for energy infrastructure projects. This role will involve developing and implementing ESIA strategies that align with international standards, ensuring compliance with lender requirements, and optimizing data collection and assessment processes.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring efficient and effective environmental and social risk assessment by integrating international best practices with local regulatory frameworks. The position requires a strong ability to engage with International financial institutions, developers, and technical specialists to facilitate rigorous and comprehensive ESIAs.
Relevant Experience Required
The ideal candidate will have:
10+ years of experiencein environmental and social impact assessment, with a focus onenergy infrastructure and large-scale development projects.
Demonstrated expertise ininternational environmental and social risk frameworks, including:
IFC Performance Standards
Equator Principles
World Bank Group Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines
Experience conducting or overseeing ESIAs for projects in theAsia-Pacific region.
Strong knowledge oflocal EIA regulationsand how they interact with international ESIA requirements.
Experience engaging withlenders and financial institutionson sustainability risks and impact mitigation.
Proven ability to work withcross-disciplinary teams, including technical experts inbiodiversity, marine ecology, and social impact assessment.
Track record of successfully managingESIA processes, from scoping and survey design to reporting and compliance monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree (or higher)in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a proven ability tointerpret complex international ESG and sustainability requirements.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly withfinancial institutions, regulatory bodies, and project developers.
Experience leadingmulti-stakeholder consultation processesand ensuring project alignment with regulatory and lender expectations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. ESIA Scoping and Compliance Strategy
Lead the development ofESIA scopein alignment with international and local requirements.
Identify applicableinternational environmental and social risk frameworksand ensure compliance withlender expectations.
Work closely withproject developers and financiersto align ESIA processes withdue diligence and risk assessment requirements.
2. Data Collection, Analysis, and Survey Design
Definekey data and information requirementsto meet both local and international ESIA standards.
Oversee thedesign and implementation of environmental and social surveys, ensuring alignment withGood International Industry Practice (GIIP).
Identifypotential information gapsearly in the project lifecycle and develop strategies to address them efficiently.
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Risk Mitigation
Engage withinternational financial institutions, regulatory agencies, and local authoritiesto ensure ESIA alignment withproject financing and permitting requirements.
Collaborate withtechnical specialists(e.g., marine ecologists, social impact experts) to address critical risk areas.
Facilitatestakeholder consultations and public engagement processes, ensuring transparency and regulatory compliance.
4. Oversight of ESIA Reporting and Risk Management Plans
Lead thecompilation and review of ESIA reports, including Environmental and Social Management Plans.
Ensure integration ofbiodiversity (IFC Performance Standard X) and social impact considerations (IFC Performance Standard Y)into ESIA documentation.
Develop risk management strategies topre-emptively address lender concernsand minimize the need for supplementary assessments.
5. Process Optimization and Capacity Building
Identifyefficiencies in ESIA and EIA alignment, minimizing duplication while ensuring compliance with both regulatory and lender requirements.
Provideguidance and trainingto internal teams, clients, and stakeholders on best practices in ESIA and environmental/social risk management.
Stay updated on emerging ESG and sustainability trends to continually enhance ESIA methodologies and reporting standards.
