Job summary

Square Peg Associates in Blackburn is seeking an experienced Practice Accountant to join a small team handling management accounts and year end for a diverse client portfolio. The role focuses on client management, financial statement preparation, and tax support with opportunity for growth.

The candidate will oversee year-end filings, VAT, and provide strategic financial guidance while mentoring junior staff. The position offers negotiable salary and benefits including pension and parking.

Qualifications

• ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified or Qualified by Experience in Practice.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years in a senior or supervisory role in an accountancy practice.
• Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks, and/or Sage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Supervisory leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Client management. Oversee a diverse portfolio of clients, offering comprehensive accounting services.
• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, and management reports. Year End accounts filings to HMRC and Companies House. VAT Returns.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to help clients achieve their business goals.
• Handle corporation tax computations, allowances, and property tax matters.
• Manage Quarterly VAT returns.
• Manage year-end accounts and VAT filings, ensuring month-end deadlines are met.
• Develop and analyse financial statements, including cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheets.
• Produce management accounts and reports using Sage, Xero, Quickbooks and Excel.
• Workflow Management, overseeing and supporting junior members of the team.
• Client Interaction and Onboarding, maintaining customer relations.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Support the learning and development of junior accountants.
