The role
As a Senior Accountant, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This role sits within the Babcock Central Accounting team in the Finance Business Services department, working with the corporate entities. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful individual to develop their accounting skills in a range of activities for the cover of maternity leave.

Day-to-day, you'll support the standardisation and optimisation of finance processes and controls across Babcock Finance, with a particular focus on journal and Balance Sheet processes.

• Preparation and approval of non-contract specific repeatable journals for UK entities, including supporting documentation, maintaining a strong control focus.
• Review, ageing and reconciliation of GRNI, including engagement with receiptors, write backs and working with the Sectors to request closure of purchase orders.
• Preparation and review of other Balance Sheet reconciliations, including value add analytical review, completeness, aging, sample testing and timely clearance of balances.
• Supporting the Indirect Tax team with the preparation of VAT returns and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Supporting the Indirect Tax team with the analysis of PSA data including secondee expenses.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based at Portsmouth. We are flexible with the amount of days spent onsite.

Essential experience of the Senior Accountant

• Hands-on experience of working within a Finance function, ideally in a complex international business environment.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations, with the insight to challenge and review balance sheet recoverability.
• Demonstrates commercial awareness with a good understanding of the business environment including customers, competitors, etc.
• Extensive experience in the use of Microsoft Office 2010 suite of applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and Outlook.
• Experience of Finance IT applications (e.g., SAP).
