Job summary

OBR Group Limited is partnering with a growing independent accountancy practice in Sheffield to recruit a Semi-Senior Accountant. You will gain exposure to a broad portfolio, build client relationships and take on increasing responsibility as you progress toward Client Manager level.

You'll prepare accounts for limited companies and other entities, handle VAT and year-end tasks, support with personal and corporate tax, and work with ACCA studies.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing accounts within an accountancy practice.
• Familiarity with VAT and year-end processes.
• Exposure to personal and/or corporation tax.
• Strong client communication and ability to work across areas.
• ACCA study support available.

Job description

We're working with a growing, independent accountancy practice in Sheffield that has tripled its turnover since 2022 and is now looking to add to its team due to growth. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone already working within practice who wants more exposure, more responsibility and a genuine route into managing their own portfolio of clients. This is a real opportunity for someone ambitious to come in, develop quickly and work their way through the ranks as the business continues to grow.

What You'll Be Doing

• Preparing accounts for limited companies and other businesses
• Year-end accounts preparation
• VAT returns
• Personal tax returns
• Supporting with corporation tax calculations
• CIS work
• Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
• Supporting bookkeeping where required
• Reviewing accounting records and reconciliations
• Exposure to payroll
• Working alongside Client Managers and supporting their portfolios
• Using technology and AI tools to improve efficiency across emails, letters and client information

You'll work closely with two established Client Managers, who will provide work and support while gradually giving you more responsibility. As your confidence and technical ability develop, the aim is for you to build up your own smaller portfolio of clients, becoming their direct point of contact and progressing towards Client Manager level.

There's plenty of variety. The practice works with businesses and individuals across sectors including:

• Education and recruitment
• Owner-managed businesses

• High-income individuals
• And many many more

The portfolio ranges from smaller businesses through to significantly larger and more complex organisations. That variety means you'll get exposure to far more than straightforward accounts preparation.

Progression

This is one of the biggest selling points of the opportunity. The practice is keen to bring in someone who wants to progress rather than simply remain at Semi-Senior level.

The team is currently creating a genuine opportunity for someone to develop underneath the existing Client Managers and gradually take on their own portfolio. You'll be exposed to a wide range of work and given more responsibility as you develop.

ACCA study support is available, alongside practical development from experienced people within the practice. There's no expectation that you walk through the door knowing everything. They would much rather find someone with the right foundations, attitude and willingness to develop.

The culture is relaxed, supportive and down-to-earth. It's a mixed team and certainly not an office full of huge personalities competing to be the loudest person in the room! The business is looking for someone who will fit into that environment, capable, approachable and confident enough to communicate with clients, without needing to be overly polished or overconfident.

• 36.25-hour working week
• Core hours of 10am–4pm
