Job description

Hours of work: Full-time - 35 hours per week

Tenure: Fixed term for 18 months

Hybrid Working: 2 days/week on Campus or minimum requirement of 40% on Campus, with 60% considered desirable where possible

The University of Liverpool is committed to providing an outstanding teaching and learning experience for all our students, built on research-connected education and a focus on enquiry-based learning. Our impactful research is “life changing and world shaping”, and we continue to develop as a connected, global University with multiple physical and virtual campuses, enabling a genuinely worldwide influence and impact. We work hard to offer a consistently high-quality academic environment in which we educate well-rounded, enquiring global citizens who connect and engage with the world's most pressing challenges. All our curricula integrate teaching and research to ensure that our students derive the maximum benefit from a dynamic environment of intellectual enquiry and challenge.

At the University of Liverpool, we recognise that our staff are at the heart of our success, as our most valuable asset, and we endeavour to provide highly effective development opportunities for staff in roles and at each stage of their career. To this end, the University has established the Leadership, Organisational, Staff and Academic Development Academy. The Academy is designed as a central hub of development support and expertise for staff, with a remit covering the development of education, research, leadership, and professional practice. At the core of this provision is the work of the Academic Development Team, a group of specialists with responsibility for educational development across the whole institution.

Working in partnership with academic and professional colleagues from across the University, this team design and deliver accredited and informal teaching development programmes and opportunities focused on enhancing practice at Liverpool.

In a hybrid working environment, the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to lead on a key portfolio of activity, with the freedom to innovate and develop our work in support of the University's strategic educational objectives. The advertised Portfolio Lead includes:

  • Programme leadership including teaching, assessment, quality enhancement and quality assurance processes: for example, Foundations of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (FLTHE, D1), Postgraduate Certificate Academic Practice (PGCAP, D2), University of Liverpool Teaching and Recognition Accreditation (ULTRA, D1-4).
  • Contribution to teaching and supporting learning across all programmes including the supervision of postgraduate research in our MA Academic Practice programme.
  • Mentor and assess experiential applications for Fellowship through our ULTRA programme (accredited for D1-4).
  • In addition to the leadership of a key portfolio, Senior Academic Developers will have the opportunity to work across the whole range of educational development activity, initiating new and exciting projects, engaging in the latest thinking and driving forward cutting-edge teaching practice.

As a candidate for this post, you will be an experienced educational developer or be able to demonstrate a high level of expertise in working across a range of academic development contexts to enhance practice in a hybrid learning environment. You will have experience of teaching within higher education and a sensitivity to the challenges and opportunities of differing disciplinary contexts and modes of learning. You will have the drive and enthusiasm to work with staff from across the University, able to engage colleagues and inspire positive change. You may have expertise of teaching and learning within a specific discipline or in-depth knowledge of elements of educational development. You will be fully invested in the positive impact of high-quality development and seek to maximise opportunities for staff to access support.
