Job summary

Milk Education is seeking an experienced SENDCo to join a partner school in Greater Manchester, helping to open a brand-new SEND Unit and shape its provision from the ground up. You will work with pupils, families, staff and external agencies to ensure SEND pupils receive the support and opportunities they need to thrive, blending strategic leadership with strong classroom practice.

Qualifications

  • Recognised SENDCo qualification or relevant experience to undertake the role.
  • Experience with a wide range of special educational needs.
  • SENDCo experience or significant experience working alongside an experienced SENDCo.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Solid understanding of SEND assessment and provision.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership and oversight of SEND provision across the school.
  • Supporting the development and successful opening of the new SEND Unit.
  • Assessing pupils' needs and ensuring appropriate support and interventions are put in place.
  • Working with teachers to promote Quality First Teaching and inclusive classroom practice.
  • Leading and delivering SEND interventions where required.
  • Supporting staff through guidance, modelling, training and staff meetings.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and analysing SEND data to identify development areas.
  • Making referrals to health professionals and other external agencies as appropriate.
  • Leading multi-agency meetings and collaborating with professionals.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, parents, carers and staff.
  • Supporting SEMH needs and contributing to a nurturing provision.
  • Producing detailed reports and communications as required.
  • Carrying out learning walks and monitoring SEND provision effectiveness.
  • Ensuring pupils access appropriate interventions and resources.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements.
  • Supporting school growth and change.
  • Occasionally undertaking class teacher responsibilities and contributing to teaching.
  • Upholding safeguarding procedures and promoting welfare of all children.
