Job summary

St Mary’s CE VA Primary Academy in Kettering is seeking a dedicated SEND Support Assistant to work under the guidance of the teacher and SENCO. You will assess pupil needs, design learning interventions, monitor progress, and help pupils access an inclusive curriculum.

You will co-design IEPs, collaborate with the Inclusion Team, and contribute to multi-agency meetings while maintaining clear records and fostering positive relationships with pupils.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience supporting children with EHCp/SEND.
• Evidence of scaffolding learning so every child can access.
• Planning for EHCp provision.
• Understanding of emotional regulation strategies, restorative approaches, and trauma-informed practice.
• Ability to build trusting, nurturing relationships with pupils.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm, consistent and professional under pressure.
• Maths and English GCSE Grade 5 or above.

Responsibilities

• Work with class teacher, SENCO and outside agencies to understand needs.
• Contribute to baseline assessments and ongoing evaluations for targeted children.
• Co-design Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt resources to support learning.
• Deliver direct support to children and implement tailored interventions.
• Track progress and maintain records of interventions, outcomes and observations.
• Collaborate with the Inclusion Team and support staff; assist with EHCP evidence gathering.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing throughout the school.
