Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA)
Location: Middlesbrough
Pay rate: £84 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long Term

GSL Education are currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to join a supportive school in Middlesbrough. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring and resilient individual who thrives in a role centred on nurturing student development and providing tailored support.

Role Overview:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting learners with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to ensure that each pupil receives the individualised support they require to thrive academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with identified SEND.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and strategies tailored to specific learning needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages participation and engagement.
  • Promote emotional regulation, independence, and confidence through consistent, patient support.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to monitor progress and adapt interventions accordingly.
  • Support the wider classroom environment while upholding behaviour management policies and safeguarding standards.

Job Requirements of SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in an educational setting.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and making a difference in young people’s lives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Adaptability, patience, and resilience when faced with challenging situations.
  • Understanding of relevant safeguarding procedures and a commitment to child welfare.
  • Strong understanding of various learning needs, including SEND, and Physical Disabilities.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
