Job summary

Crawshaw Academy is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to work across both mainstream and Pathways, providing practical and emotional support to help students access learning. You will collaborate with teachers and SEND professionals to create safe, nurturing environments where learners feel valued and able to succeed.

Ideal candidates bring experience with children or young people and a genuine interest in SEND and SEMH.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in educational, youth work, care or support settings.
  • Patient, calm and adaptable, especially with learners facing challenges with learning, behaviour or emotions.
  • Interest in SEND, SEMH and supporting students with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work across mainstream and Pathways, adapting approach to meet individual needs.
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with students who may need extra support to engage with learning.
  • Support students who may have experienced disrupted education, helping them rebuild confidence and trust in education.
  • Help young people recognise their strengths and celebrate progress and achievement.
  • Be part of a team focused on re-engagement, confidence and progress as students move to next steps.

We are looking for acommitted, compassionate and adaptable SEND Teaching Assistant to joinour team, supporting students across both our mainstream school and Pathways,our on-site specialist alternative provision.

Working across both ourmainstream provision and Pathways, you will have the opportunity to support adiverse range of young people and develop your experience of supporting students with additional needs. Pathways provides a more personalised approachfor young people who may need additional support to engage with education. Thefocus is on helping students re-engage with education, build confidence anddevelop the skills they need to achieve positive outcomes.

As a SEND TeachingAssistant, you will:
  • Work across both mainstream and Pathways, adapting your approach to meet individual needs
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with young people who may need additional support to engage with learning
  • Support students who may have experienced disrupted education, helping them rebuild confidence and trust in education
  • Help young people recognise their strengths and potential, celebrating progress and achievement along the way
  • Be part of a team focused on re-engagement, confidence and progress, both within school and as students move towards their next steps

You will providepractical and emotional support to help students access learning and makeprogress. This may include working with individuals or small groups, supportingstudents in lessons, helping them manage challenges and develop positivebehaviours, and adapting your approach to meet their individual needs.

You will work closelywith teachers, pastoral colleagues and SEND professionals to create safe,structured and nurturing environments where students feel valued, understoodand able to succeed. Through strong relationships, consistent support and highexpectations, you will help young people develop the skills, resilience andself-belief they need both in school and beyond.

About You

We are looking forsomeone who:

  • Shares our commitment to the values of respect, integrity and determination, helping every student feel supported, valued and able to succeed
  • Has experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational, youth work, care or support setting
  • Builds strong relationships based on trust, consistency and high expectations
  • Is patient, calm and adaptable, particularly when supporting young people who may experience challenges with learning, behaviour or emotional regulation
  • Has an interest in SEND, SEMH and supporting young people with additional needs
  • Is able to work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral colleagues and other professionals

Previous experience inalternative provision is desirable but not essential. We are equally interestedin candidates with the right personal qualities, values and motivation tosupport young people.
