Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for a specialist SEND school in Thornton Heath, CR7. This full-time, long-term role involves 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND, including autism, ADHD and SEMH.

You will help deliver differentiated activities and work toward EHCP targets. The role entails supporting emotional regulation, sensory needs and communication strategies, with a focus on pupil dignity and progress.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN/SEND.
• Experience within a specialist SEND school or provision is desirable.
• Understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH and complex needs.

Location: Thornton Heath, CR7 - commutable from Croydon, Norbury, Streatham, Crystal Palace and surrounding areas

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Contract: Long-term temporary with potential to become permanent

Setting: Specialist SEND School

Long Term Futures is recruiting a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Thornton Heath, CR7, on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a specialist education setting supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties and complex learning needs.

About the Role

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND
• Support children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and complex learning needs
• Assist with delivering differentiated and individualised learning activities
• Work towards targets outlined within pupils' EHCPs
• Support emotional regulation, sensory needs and positive behaviour
• Implement de-escalation strategies when required
• Use visual timetables, PECS, Makaton or alternative communication strategies where appropriate
• Assist with personal care where required, maintaining pupil dignity
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and specialist support professionals

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN/SEND
• Experience within a specialist SEND school, SEN provision or alternative provision would be highly desirable
• Understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH and complex needs
• Comfortable supporting pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC or visual communication strategies would be advantageous
