Job description

SEND Teaching Assistant - Chorley

We are seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to join our specialist SEND school in Chorley, which supports pupils with a range of complex learning needs. The children require patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for helping every individual thrive in their own way.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with class teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils aged 2-19 with a variety of complex needs, including autism, medical needs, communication difficulties, and cognitive challenges. Your role will be vital in creating a safe, positive, and stimulating learning environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting individual and small groups of pupils in and outside of the classroom.

  • Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, where required.

  • Promoting communication, emotional regulation, and independence.

  • Using a range of communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC (training provided).

  • Building trusting relationships with pupils and working collaboratively with families and professionals.

What We're Looking For:

  • A background in care (e.g., healthcare, support work, or similar) is highly desirable - your transferable skills are invaluable.

  • A warm, patient, and adaptable personality - a sense of humour helps too!

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Experience working with SEND or vulnerable children is beneficial but not essential - we value character as much as qualifications.

  • A willingness to undertake personal care duties with dignity and respect.

What We Offer:

  • Supportive leadership and a committed staff team.

  • Opportunities to progress within a growing school network.

  • Competitive pay 90 - 110.

If you're passionate about making a meaningful impact and ready for a rewarding challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
