Job Overview

We are seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant to work 35 hours per week during term time only in the Inclusion Department at Bury Grammar School, primarily based in the Senior School.

Note: Although this is a fixed-term position, there is a possibility of extension.

We value flexibility, creativity, and proactivity, along with a genuine care for pupil progress. The SEND Teaching Assistant will support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities through one-to-one and small group support sessions, assisting the work of the Inclusion Department.

The role reports to the SENDCo and Senior Teacher Inclusion.

Purpose

• Provide individualised support to pupils with SEND.
• Support the Inclusion Department and the Academic and Pastoral teams in maintaining high standards of achievement.
• Deliver high-quality SEND support and monitor its impact.
• Nurture the ethos and values of Bury Grammar School, supporting pupils’ learning.
• Contribute to a positive, safe, and challenging environment where pupils can develop and respect each other.
• Assist the Academic team with cover arrangements, including classroom cover and invigilation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Pupil SEND Support: Plan and deliver tailored support sessions, working with subject teachers and pastoral staff to promote pupil progress. Support pupils through one-to-one or group sessions, advise teachers on pupil progress, liaise with the SENDCo and Pastoral Team, and develop individual action plans. Maintain records to demonstrate the impact of support.
• SEND Administration and Monitoring: Assist with monitoring the SEND referral system, support pupil screening, maintain Pupil Profiles, attend Inclusion Team meetings, and provide administrative support as needed. Coordinate with senior staff to ensure session timetables are accurate.
• Invigilation of Examinations: Assist with internal and external exam invigilation, staying updated on access arrangements.
• Hub Supervision: Supervise the Pupil Hub during breaks and lunchtimes, and deliver lunchtime support sessions.
