Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment is seeking a SEND Teacher to join a PMLD specialist school in Sutton. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm, starting September 2026, with salary competitive and dependent on experience.

You will plan personalised learning, support communication and independence, and collaborate with therapists, building strong relationships with pupils and families in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE equivalent.
  • Experience teaching in SEND or specialist settings.
  • Knowledge of PMLD and complex needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver personalised learning for pupils with PMLD.
  • Support communication, sensory development and independence.
  • Create safe, structured, nurturing classrooms.

Are you a passionate SEND Teacher looking for an opportunity to make a real difference within a specialist school setting? A welcoming, family-feel specialist school in Sutton is seeking a dedicated SEND Teacher to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex additional needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and experienced SEND Teacher who wants to provide personalised learning experiences and support pupils’ communication, independence, wellbeing, and development within a nurturing environment. The school has a strong focus on relationships, communication, and creating a positive learning experience where every pupil is valued and supported to achieve their individual goals.

Role
  • Plan and deliver personalised learning experiences tailored to the individual needs of pupils with PMLD and complex needs.
  • Support pupils’ communication, sensory development, engagement, and independence skills.
  • Create a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop individualised learning opportunities to support academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Build strong and meaningful relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Encourage confidence, engagement, and progress through a pupil-centred approach.
Ideal Candidate
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) preferred or PGCE equivalent.
  • Experience teaching within SEND or specialist school settings.
  • Strong understanding of PMLD, complex needs, and personalised learning approaches.
  • Experience supporting pupils with a range of communication and developmental needs.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • A calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a dedicated team.
Therapeutic, Relationship-Led Approach
  • Use calm, respectful, and consistent communication at all times.
  • Create clear and supportive boundaries for pupils.
  • Use positive reinforcement to encourage progress and celebrate achievements.
  • Be proactive and engaged within the classroom environment.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
Physical Intervention

The school promotes a non-handling approach. Any physical contact must only take place where necessary for pupil safety and in line with safeguarding procedures and school policies.
