Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a passionate SEND Teacher to join a specialist provision in Walton-on-Thames, starting in September. This role supports pupils with autism and varied needs in a Primary or Secondary setting.

You will teach small classes, adapt lessons to individual styles, and work with support staff and therapists to promote academic, social, emotional and personal development in a safe, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching in a Primary or Secondary setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, particularly autism and complex needs.
  • Creative and flexible teaching approach with ability to adapt lessons to individual learning needs.
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Compassionate, patient and resilient approach to teaching.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and commitment to pupil wellbeing.
  • Ability to assess and track pupil progress and adapt strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach small, focused classes and adapt lessons to meet each pupil's needs.
  • Create engaging and inclusive lessons that foster curiosity and confidence.
  • Collaborate with support staff, therapists and pastoral colleagues.
  • Support pupils' academic, social, emotional and personal development holistically.
  • Promote a safe, respectful and positive environment where every child feels valued.
  • Help pupils develop essential life skills and independence.
  • Encourage pupil participation and ownership of their learning journey.
  • Maintain safeguarding standards and prioritise pupil wellbeing.
  • Track and assess progress and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Celebrate successes and approach challenges positively.
