Prospero Teaching is seeking a SEND Specialist Tutor to engage a Year 11 learner with SEMH and complex needs in 1:1 sessions in Sunderland. The role focuses on re-engagement with learning, building trust, and supporting emotional wellbeing, personal development, and resilience.

Sessions are 15 hours weekly, during typical school hours, with weekly progress reports to track engagement, behaviour and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain a new one).
• References covering the last two years.
• Experience with SEMH/complex SEND.

Job description

SEND Specialist Tutor

We are seeking a SEND Tutor who can provide consistent, structured and engaging sessions tailored to the individual needs of a student with complex needs. The primary focus of this role is to re-engage the student with learning, build trust, and support their emotional wellbeing and personal development.

Tuition will be delivered on a 1:1 basis for 15 hours per week, ideally during school hours. You will also be required to complete weekly reports to track engagement, progress, behaviour and wellbeing, helping to ensure the student remains on track and receives the appropriate support.

Contract/Position Details:

• Location - Sunderland
• Position - SEND Specialist Tutor (SEMH & Complex Needs)
• Type of work - Contract
• Start date - ASAP
• Setting - Student's home or local community setting (e.g. learning hub/library)
• Duration - Ongoing, until a suitable school placement is secured
• Contract type - Temporary
• Hours - 15 hours per week
• Rate of pay - up to £30 per hour (negotiable)

Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:

• Children-related or Education-based qualification
• Experience working with students with complex SEND and SEMH needs

• Patient, resilient, and creative approach to learning
• Ability to think outside the box and adapt sessions to maintain engagement

To be eligible for this role, the SEND Specialist Tutor must:

• Hold the right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Be able to provide references covering the last two years
